During this wintery season, we typically buy new jackets, hats and scarves. But, do you know where you can buy warm apparel and still be socially responsible?? Patagonia! This week we have chosen to feature Patagonia as our Corporate Conscious Wednesday Winner.

Patagonia sells everything from apparel and accessories for men, women and kids to outdoor sports equipment. You can even purchase used Patagonia clothing!

If you visit their website http://www.patagonia.com/us/home, you will find an entire section dedicated to Environmentalism. There are many great things that Patagonia is doing for our environment, but one thing that really stood out to us was their dedication to the Common Threads Initiative, which fully embraces the reduce, reuse, recycle way of life.

Patagonia reduces by making useful gear that lasts a long time and encouraging consumers not to buy things from their store if they don’t really need it. They will even repair your Patagonia gear if anything needs to be fixed. Patagnoia reuses by helping your Patagonia gear find a new home if you no longer need it. Lastly, Patagonia recycles by taking back any gear that is worn out and pledges to keep it out of landfills. You can even purchase used Patagonia clothes if you’d like.

So what do you think of Patagonia? We would love to hear your thoughts!

T’was the night before the program
And all through the place;
The staff was busy working
At a furious pace.

There was AV to be checked
And carbon footprints to review,
CSR activities to look over,
Just so much to do.

As attendees arrived;
All became right.
The staff had worked hard,
All through the night.

With the reg. desk finally closed,
And the work room locked tight;
The attendees were checked in,
Snug in their rooms for the night.

The very next day,
Things were handled with care.
The group soon would be gone;
They would depart with much flair.

The program was a success;
We did all we could.
If we say so ourselves,
We’ve done pretty darn good.

One more thing to say,
As we turn out the light…
Happy Holidays to all,
And to all a good night!

To all our friends in the Meeting & Incentive Industry;
Happy Holidays and Best Wishes for a Happy and Prosperous New Year!

Sweetgreen is a restaurant that was created by three Georgetown undergraduate students who were tired of limited food options and asking “Where should we go eat?”

“Sweetgreen is a place where you can get fun, fashionable food that’s both healthy for you and aligned with your values. Simply stated… food that fits.” We love to come across businesses with this philosophy.

Everything from the food to packaging to waste is sustainable. Impressive right? Let’s break down their initiatives to give you a closer look at their remarkable efforts!

Food: Sourced from organic and local farmers. All proteins are hormone free, antibiotic free and all natural.

Packaging: 100% plant-based compostable packing which includes bowls, cutlery and cups.

Waste: Compost food scraps in their kitchens and composting and recycling stations for customers

Energy: Offset 100% of their energy with wind energy credits

Design: Furniture made from reclaimed wood or old bowling alley wood with energy efficient LED and Fluorescent lighting

Partners: Organic Trade Association, Green Restaurant Association, EPA Power Partner, Clean Currents, DC Farm to School

Additionally, Sweetgreen University (SGU) is a program that was created to further reinforce these sustainable standards and involve employees. This program educates employees about the global state of food, energy, waste and water. However, SGU goes beyond the typical classroom style learning. After employees have mastered the content they are asked to select a topic of their choice and develop their own project, such as volunteering on an organic farm or cutting back on personal plastic consumption.

For more information, please visit http://sweetgreen.com/

We want to hear from you! What do you think about this restaurant? Have you ever eaten at sweetgreen?
